This is a VERY popular evangelical child rearing manual , circa 1990 or so, that has very abusive, coercive strategies to break a child's willfulness including hitting babies with implements. Essentially this book describes how to give your baby a personality disorder. This is why we have Proud Boys-- think: Shamed, rage-based Men-- & Charlottesville marchers coming from the Christian right. Very much like the abusive parenting of 1900's Germany discussed by Alice Miller. They have little empathy and a great deal of rage. Their need to please those in 'authority' and their extreme rage make them easy to manipulate.
This is dangerous for our democracy.
