The Twitter archive zip file just needs to be unzipped to a folder on your computer. You can use a free app/program like 7zip to unzip the file. Once unzipped you will see a file called Index.html (or similarly named HTML file) in the folder. Open this file and you should see an offline version of your twitter account in your browser.

I've downloaded my archive file regularly and judging by the varying file sizes I believe each archive only includes tweets posted since the previous archive was taken. Not checked this, but it's the only explanation that makes sense. So, be sure to keep all archive files downloaded. Also, be sure to keep backups on an external hard drive and/or USB pen. Personally, I prefer to keep backups on at least two external devices.

The possibility to quote tweet is sorely missed on the pachyderm. I don’t mind the the name, since it’s never used in French (mastodon/ mastodonte)- no bad connotations. Taylor Lorenz brought up the lack of QT and I think it will be made possible... but not right now. Searching is also an issue. It’s easier to go back to Twitter and search there. There’s a thing called Post that’s new. There’s a waitlist and I have no idea what it will look like. Someone absolutely needs to come up with an app devoted to opening Twitter archives and make them useable -- all those ex-employees should be able to come up with that! People would pay for it!

It's a mindbender and a heartbreaker. 5 years and the trolls finally nuked me. 7.5 without incident on another account. I had a live tweet threads of hearings, threads on foreign interference, and some had 200 parts and some were still ongoing about certain political operatives since at least 2018. Many political oppo threads, all the work sourced, I reported on FRC being the rabbit hole where they all lived in January 2019, I built and vetted my account slow . At first I felt a bit lost. (I have archives downloaded recently before I got taken down but how do you start over from scratch, it was just before everyone jumped to mastodon.) but then I realized that the small town worth of followers I lost weren't doing me jack squat when I wasn't getting any reach due to years of targeted focused campaigns to try and remove me (18 exploited blocklists I was on and the daily work of ops to try and undermine me). And like you, I didn't do it for me, I did it because I thought we were all goners, I wanted to protect our democracy , I never made a penny or asked for any gigs. I spent years targeted, even on Ron paul Tulsi staffer hit lists that they gave to daily stormer...the last year the only reason they didn't ratio report me was because they'd lose track of me. we have so much ahead of us that will just keep happening. I'm thinking maybe I'll skim the archives like I used to do my old threads as news arises.

"Mastodon" is an apropos name because, like the dinosaur it's named after, it will soon be extinct. Mastodon is what you get when engineers create a product without consulting marketing and seeking customer feedback.

There are SEVERAL start-ups and you can bet your life savings the run of firings from Twitter have created a plethora of talent motivated to create a new and improved Twittersphere. If not Mastodon, or Post (built on Google), there will be something much improved. Eloncumpoop is the next Tom from MySpace - every incel's first friend. Hopefully Twitter can last a few months until there's a platform that does similar and can upload your T history.

For some reason, the media is not talking about Musk's original vision for Twitter to evolve into the X App - an app merging Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, banking, travel, and eventually a rival to Bitcoin. In short, everything WeChat plus a future ability to potentially negate the US banking system.

So while everyone seems to be talking about how "Musk wants to take this down through nefarious financing partners" it's incredibly incorrect. There's no deeply nefarious reasoning - just capitalism by a socially inept former incel with a growing list of baby mama problems and no clear mentors to provide sane guidance.

Re: Archiving your material by saving your Twitter page on archive.org with this:

https://web.archive.org/save/https://twitter.com/gal_suburban

I don't know how deep that save goes, in following and archiving threads, but it's worth a shot?

Your work is vital.

Don't panic. As long as you have already archived twitter, you're good.

Twitter archive still relies on twit for URLs/images .. etc.

You can preserve your data without the need of elmo's incel server w/ Python (twitter archive parser).

Sounds daunting but it's simple.

Check if you already have python running on your Windows/Mac

https://realpython.com/installing-python/

1. Download this small file - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timhutton/twitter-archive-parser/main/parser.py

2. Save in the folder where you extracted your archive from Twitter.

3. Open a command-prompt in that directory.

4. Type this: python parser.py (need to replace parser.py with the full path to it).

5. Creates/converts new archive. Done.

6. Optional pour a glass of red.

Stay Strong. The goal of everything corrosive is to demoralize good people and reward boors -- so we must not let them. succeed but regroup, come back energized. You have been such an incredible source of reliable, not-reported-on information. It's not lost because it's been passed around, fortifying others.

This link was put out on Mastadon as a suggested way to deal w Archive. It is over my head but probably not yours!

Just want to say thanks and also suggest you look into Reddit. It is not reaallly the same and in some ways a bit old fashioned, but the style of interaction is ok and there's search. I also hope for a utility to deal with the twitter archive

Sending you hugs, Gal. Feeling defeated is a terrible feeling but you’ve contributed so much to my learning & understanding , especially of Florida corruption (although I admit a lot of what you research is a lil over my head). Thank you for everything you do.

It’s gonna take awhile to get used to Mastodon..but I am trying to figure out my objectives… to learn what’s up of course but a Main reason I joined Twitter was to fight disinformation ..but it’s not like I interact directly with MAGA on Twitter ..I spend a lot of time calling out MSM failures /right tilt framing …as long as MSM is posting on Twitter I feel like that is still the best place to call them out until Mastodon gets lots more users. Sigh
